Communication Mismatch
An Investigation of Interpersonal Communication Problems within the Formal Organization

By L.A. Vezzuto

Twenty years ago a graduate student explored the question of how face-to-face communication problems were studied in the formal organization. This inquiry took the author on a transdisciplinary exploration into the assumptions, principles, definitions, and state of research about what can go wrong when individuals communicate within an organizational culture. The investigation examined communication from the perspectives of several fields of knowledge: anthropology, semiotics, organizational behavior, organizational communication, information theory, and systems theory.

This book traces the development of the field of organizational communication, approaches to the research of organizational communication problems, and concludes with proposing a nexus among an anthropological linguistic model of communication problems, the convergence theory of communication and the research describing organizations as a type of culture.
